announces recruitment process for the work position:

Postdoctoral research associate – in the Central Laboratories, a research department of the Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass, in the field of the:

Study and research in the area of chemical durability and corrosion resistance of inorganic materials in aqueous solutions

There is immediate opening for 1 position of postdoctoral research associate in the newly established Centre for functional and surface functionalized glass at the Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín, Slovakia, funded from the H2020 framework programme project. The appointment is for at least two years with possible extension of the contract 12/2023 dependent upon research progress and quality of the scientific outputs. Positions are open immediately upon completion of recruitment process, but later start is negotiable. Salary will be commensurate with experience, training, and qualifications, in line with the rules of the European Commission on personal costs in the frame of the H2020 projects.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Process samples and validation of methods for ICP OES and ICP MS analysis.
  • Run analytical instruments and design the durability tests including interpretation of data.
  • Assist researchers and students in new method preparation work.
  • Routine maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Electronic recording and detailed reporting on all work conducted, and all instrumentation used, in compliance with requirements on the use of ICP OES, and ICP MS in the Centre.
  • Regular communication with senior scientists and project management team on project status.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have a PhD (doctoral degree) in Chemistry, Material Science; PhD title already awarded.
  • Experience in glass science: characterization of inorganic (glass) materials in respect to their chemical durability, having experience in determining of chemical composition of inorganic materials by wet decomposition techniques.
  • Strong instrument analysis background, at least 7 year ICP-OES or MS experience preferred.
  • Partial experiences with analysis of solid samples with laser ablation ICP MS.
  • Proven work experience as a researcher in a chemistry lab project.
  • Ability to work in a clean room environment.
  • Attention to detail, willingness to give and receive frequent feedback on project tasks.
  • Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Mathematical and statistics software package background preferred but not required.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Office 365 software products.
  • Good command of English (at least B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.

The position involves:

  • Fundamental and applied research in the areas defined above,
  • Research collaboration with partners of the Centre,
  • Publication of research results and active participation/presentations at scientific meetings,
  • Written and oral communication, preparation of research papers and scientific reports, analysis and investigation of scientific problems.
