4. Get the Recognition of Education

Send or bring it to university not later than the date of enrollment.

 

4.1. Recognition for Bachelor study

Recognition of leaving certificates and diplomas issued by a secondary school in other member state or in a third state is performed at the Department of Education of the respective District Office (Odbor školstva Okresného úradu v sídle kraja), after the comparison of the content and length of the education obtained by the applicant and the requirements of the equivalent study program in Slovakia.

 

4.1.1. Application for bilateral agreements countries here

Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Croatia, Poland (2006 treaty) / (2016 treaty), Romania, Ukraine

Mandatory documentation submitted together with the application includes:

  • copy of identification document;
  • certified copy of the leaving certificate or diploma, (translation into Slovak must be made by a court interpreter)
    (Slovak court translators);
  • proof of payment of the administrative fee (5 EUR).

 

4.1.2. Application for other countries here

Mandatory documentation submitted together with the application includes:

  • copy of identification document;
  • certified copy of the leaving certificate or diploma (Slovak court translators);
  • transcript of completed courses and completed exams;
  • in case of vocational secondary education, a confirmation issued by the secondary school about the scope of practical education;
  • an authentication of signatures and seals of the school on the original educational documentation by the competent body of the state in question (apostille, super legalisation), unless an international agreement states otherwise;
  • proof of payment of the administrative fee (30 EUR).

4.2. Recognition for Master study

 

4.2.1. Recognition of the Level of Higher Education Based on International Agreements and Member State of European Higher Education Area (EHEA) application form

List of states with international agreement with the Slovak Republic: Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Croatia, Poland (2006 treaty)/(2016 treaty), Romania, Ukraine.

List of European Higher Education Area member states: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosna and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Holy See, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Macedonia, Turkey, United Kingdom and Belarus.

An education document issued by an education institution from a member state or a third state, which is a side of a mutual bilateral or multilateral recognition agreement signed by the Slovak Republic, or issued by a higher education institution from a member state of European Higher Education Area (EHEA) is automatically recognized for academic purposes. The recognition body for higher education documents originating from these countries is the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic - Centre for Recognition of Diplomas (CRD).

Mandatory documentation submitted together with the application includes:

  • copy of identification document,
  • certified copies of the formal evidence of completion of the education,
  • proof of payment of the administrative fee.

The administrative fee for the recognition of the level of education:

  • if there is a bilateral agreement signed between the Slovak Republic and the country of origin: 5 EUR,
  • if the state of origin is a member of European Higher Education Area: 30 EUR.

Mandatory part of the application is legal translation of submitted documents, except for documents in Czech and Latin. In order to decrease the financial costs of applicants we accept their own translation of documents issued in the following languages: English, German, French, Russian and Hungarian. In case of doubt concerning the translation CRD is entitled to request a legal translation from the applicant.

4.2.2. Recognition of Diplomas for the Continuation of Studies for all countries

ursuant to § 33 of Act no. 422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Educational Documents and on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications and on Amendments to Certain Laws, the proof of education in the relevant branch of study, issued by a higher education institution for the purpose of the continuation of studies is in the competence of Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín which pursues study programs in the same or similar branch of studies in respect of educational document.

Applicant submits a written request on the recognition of education document at Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín, that must contain the following:

  • first name and surname of an applicant,
  • address of permanent residence or similar residence of applicant,
  • subject of request,
  • name and address of recognized university, where the document on completed education was issued,
  • year confirming the end of applicant’s study,
  • applicant’s signature.

Mandatory documentation submitted together with an application includes:

  • copy of the identification document,
  • certified copy the diploma or degree,
  • transcript of completed courses and exams,
  • certified copy of the diploma supplement, if issued by the HEI,
  • information about the previous achieved level of education,
  • authentication of signatures and seals on the original educational documentation by the competent body of the state in question (apostille, super legalisation), unless an international agreement states otherwise,
  • proof of payment of the administrative fee.

The administrative fee for the recognition of diploma:

  • if there is a bilateral agreement signed between the Slovak Republic and the country of origin: 5 EUR
  • if the state of origin is a member of European Higher Education Area or third state: 30 EUR

The applicant is also obligated to present a certified translation of the educational documents into the official language.

5. Temporary stay for study purposes for students / PhD students

Third-country students who are planning to stay in Slovakia for more than 90 days have to request
a temporary stay for study purposes. The application is submitted personally either abroad at the Slovak Embassy / Consulate (territorially competent for the foreign country or in Slovakia at the relevant foreigners' police department. More info http://www.mzv.sk/web/en/consular_info

The applicant shall provide:

  • Filled Request for a Temporary Stay - it must be filled out in Slovak;
  • 2 current face photos 3 x 3.5 cm;
  • a valid travel document (only for viewing);
  • a document proving the purpose of the stay - confirmation of the school on admission to study (in Slovak);
  • a document in the Slovak language proving sufficient financial security during the stay - a statement of the balance on the bank account held in the name of the third-country national;
  • Extract from the Criminal Record, apostilled or superlegalised, from the country of residence of the foreigner and from every country where the foreigner has stayed for more than 90 days in the last 3 years during 6 consecutive months; each extract must be subsequently officially translated into Slovak by Slovak court translators;
  • Foreigners who are going to study at college do not provide accommodation.

None of these documents may be older than 90 days.

The personnel of the foreigners' police department communicate exclusively in Slovak. Therefore, we recommend those who do not speak Slovak to come to the foreigners' police department in the company of someone who does speak Slovak.

If a temporary residence permit is granted, within 30 days of the receipt of the residence document, it is necessary to provide the foreign police department with a proof of medical examination confirming that the person concerned does not suffer from a disease threatening public health. . The proof of health check must not be older than 30 days and can only be obtained in selected Slovak healthcare facilities.
