Political Science - Magister (Mgr.) - part-time

Admission Requirements:

Basic criteria for admission into the level II study programme in Political Science include completion of the study programme in Political Science or similar study programme at level I.

Information on the Programme of Study:

The M.A program of the Department of Political Science focuses on the preparation of specialists in public service. The graduates of this M.A program will be able to work in public administration, create conceptions of regional development, to work out decisions of representative bodies and also higher authorities of state administration, to create alternative projects of development and their comparison with similar projects from other regions. The next ability of each graduate of this program is the analyses of social and economic development of region, searching of comparative advantages and to help in the selection of effective method how to govern the region. One of the barriers of progress in Slovakia and in the countries of former communist block is the low professional know-how about the organization of regional development in Western European countries of the European Union and North America. Therefore a part of this program will be the description, analyses and simulation of mechanisms of regional development based on the experience of mentioned countries. At the same time, students will try to find answers to some questions from the area: democracy in the life of citizen. It is about the participation of citizens in local political decision-making processes, public appraisal alternatives and entering the group of specialists to the creation of public policy.

Important part of this program is also questions of social and economic development. It is about the ability to get unbiased and complex statements about the real status of the region, preparedness to analyze these statements and to create final references. It is also connected with the social situation of population, formation of local and regional budgets, financial development and exploitation international experiences. We regard the development of technical infrastructure, health service, social welfare and educational system as key questions.

The graduates of our common M.A program could be also accepted as strategic managers on regional level. It will be a combination of economic, political and social management.
