4. Get the Recognition of Education
Send or bring it to university not later than the date of enrollment.
4.1. Recognition for Bachelor study
Recognition of leaving certificates and diplomas issued by secondary school in another state is performed at the Regional Office of School Administration (Regionálny úrad školskej správy) in the region of the permanent residence of the applicant or the region of the university location.
The application is submitted on the application form or by own signed letter that includes the first name and surname of the applicant, permanent address or address of similar stay of the applicant, full name and address of the issuing primary or secondary school, year of completion of the education, the type of Slovak document it should be compared with, and applicant’s signature. If the applicant is underage, the application is filed by his/her legal guardian.
The application includes the following documents:
- for documents which are subject to a bilateral mutual recognition agreements signed with Slovak Republic
- copy of identification document,
- certified copy of the leaving certificate or diploma (Slovak court translators),
- proof of payment of the application fee.
- for all other documents
- copy of identification document,
- certified copy of the leaving certificate or diploma (Slovak court translators),
- transcript of completed courses and completed exams,
- in case of vocational secondary education, a confirmation issued by the secondary school about the scope of practical education,
- proof of payment of the application fee.

- 40 EUR if the qualification is not covered by any of the bilateral agreements (code in the web and mobile application eKolok: 7263)

The applicant is also obligated to present certified translation of the educational documents into the official language.

4.2. Recognition for Master study
4.2.1. Recognition of the Level of Higher Education Based on International Agreements
Information for persons (nationals, foreigners) who would like to have their higher education qualification (diploma, degree certificate and similar) recognized for further studies and the recognition of level of attained education without comparing the study field and its contents is sufficient for them. The recognition is performed without the comparison of the scope and contents (only the level of obtained education is recognized).
Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic - Centre for Recognition of Diplomas (CRD) recognizes qualification credentials (university diploma, degree certificate or certificate of final examinations) issued by a recognized foreign education institution for further study. In case of states that signed a bilateral recognition agreement with Slovakia, the qualification is recognized according to the agreement with the reduced application fee.
The application can be submitted using the form below or own letter that must contain the first name and surname of the applicant, permanent address or address of similar stay of the applicant, subject of the application, full name and address of the institution which issued the document, the year of completion of the education and applicant’s signature. In case the holder of the educational document is underage, the application is filled in by his/her legal guardian.

- electronic forms at the Central Government Portal (www.slovensko.sk) - an electronic ID/eIDAS required for electronic submission. In case of an application submitted electronically, the administrative fee is reduced by 50%. Electronic application can only be submitted only through the Central Government Portal (https://www.slovensko.sk), where the electronic version of this form is available. In case of electronic application, all the documents normally signed by the applicant bear an electronic signature and all the attachments which require certified copies are made by certified electronic conversion (own scans or photographs of the documents are not accepted).
Mandatory documentation submitted together with the application includes
- copy of identification document
- certified copies of the formal evidence of completion of the education (diploma, diploma supplement, and/or degree certificate)
- proof of payment of the administrative fee
Mandatory part of the application is legal translation of submitted documents. In order to decrease the financial costs of applicants Ministry accept own translation of documents issued in the following languages: English, German, French, Russian and Hungarian. In case of doubt concerning the translation, CRD is entitled to request a legal translation from the applicant.
The application fee for the recognition of the level of education is
- 7 EUR if the qualification is covered by a bilateral agreement signed between the Slovak Republic and the country of origin (code in the web and mobile application eKolok: 1723)
- 40 EUR if the qualification is not covered by any of the bilateral agreements (code in the web and mobile application eKolok: 2218)

- Czech Republic (according to this presidential treaty, the level of education obtained in the Czech Republic is valid in the Slovak Republic without recognition for all purposes except the pursuit of a regulated profession)

4.2.2. Recognition of Diplomas for the Continuation of Studies for all countries
Information to persons (nationals, foreigners) who would like to have their higher education qualification (diploma, degree certificate and similar) recognized for further studies or other purposes, excluding the practice of regulated professions, and require the recognition of equivalence of the study field. The result of this procedure is the decision of recognition of the qualification with the diploma of higher education.
The proof of education in the relevant branch of study, issued by a higher education institution for the purpose of the continuation of studies is in the competence of Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín which pursues study programs in the same or similar branch of studies in respect of educational document. (If Alexander Dubček university of Trenčín do not have the same or similar study program you have to find another university and send the application to them.)
Applicant submits a written request on the recognition of education document at Alexander Dubček University of Trenčín, that must contain the following:
- first name and surname of an applicant,
- address of permanent residence or similar residence of applicant,
- subject of request,
- name and address of recognized university, where the document on completed education was issued,
- year confirming the end of applicant’s study,
- applicant’s signature.
Mandatory documentation submitted together with an application includes:
- copy of the identification document,
- certified copy the diploma or degree,
- transcript of completed courses and exams,
- certified copy of the diploma supplement, if issued by the HEI,
- information about the previous achieved level of education,
- proof of payment of the administrative fee.

The applicant is also obligated to present a certified translation of the educational documents into the official language. Besides the documentation above, the applicant could be also asked to present additional materials and information, if they are proven to be necessary for the validation process.

5. Temporary stay for study purposes for students / PhD students
Third-country students who are planning to stay in Slovakia for more than 90 days have to request
a temporary stay for study purposes. The application is submitted personally either abroad at the Slovak Embassy / Consulate (territorially competent for the foreign country or in Slovakia at the relevant foreigners' police department. More info http://www.mzv.sk/web/en/consular_info
The applicant shall provide:
- Filled Request for a Temporary Stay - it must be filled out in Slovak;
- 2 current face photos 3 x 3.5 cm;
- a valid travel document (only for viewing);
- a document proving the purpose of the stay - confirmation of the school on admission to study (in Slovak);
- a document in the Slovak language proving sufficient financial security during the stay - a statement of the balance on the bank account held in the name of the third-country national;
- Extract from the Criminal Record, apostilled or superlegalized, from the country of residence of the foreigner and from every country where the foreigner has stayed for more than 90 days in the last 3 years during 6 consecutive months; each extract must be subsequently officially translated into Slovak by Slovak court translators;
- Foreigners who are going to study at college do not provide accommodation.
None of these documents may be older than 90 days.

The personnel of the foreigners' police department communicate exclusively in Slovak. Therefore, we recommend those who do not speak Slovak to come to the foreigners' police department in the company of someone who does speak Slovak.

If a temporary residence permit is granted, within 30 days of the receipt of the residence document, it is necessary to provide the foreign police department with a proof of medical examination confirming that the person concerned does not suffer from a disease threatening public health. The proof of health check must not be older than 30 days and can only be obtained in selected Slovak healthcare facilities.
