Information on the Programme of Study:
Students who complete the first level of the the study discipline 5.2.26 Materials and study programme Material Engineering acquire basic knowledge in the area of production, testing, technological processing, selection, and degradation of properties of the main categories of technological materials. They receive basic information about chemical composition and structure of both metal and non-metal material types, as well as environmental assessment of material and technological properties.
Graduates are qualified to work in industrial enterprises in the area of technological material production, its technological processing into semi-finished materials and products, as well as in the area of their quality control and procurement, together with service and maintenance. They are able to manage the flow of production of technological units and facilities, including ecological units.
The programme also teaches the skills necessary to process outcomes of laboratory experiments and production processes. Graduates are typically able to communicate in one non-Slavic foreign language. They have basic understanding of the principles of computer science and are able to operate basic information software. Graduates actively use information science for their management and automation of technological processes, research solutions, as well as corporate management activities.
They acquire knowledge and skills in the area of assessment of mechanical properties of material and can work with mechanisms for testing. Further, they are able to evaluate the structure of material and gain necessary knowledge in the area of computer modelling and material loading simulation and its optimal design, taking into consideration the operation load. They are able to work as members of design teams, individually address technological issues, and maintain contact with technological development in the area of technological materials They are ready to follow up on their own professional growth.
Graduates of the study programme in material engineering can also analyse the degree of environmental components contamination, and identify chemical substances and other agents causing environmental deterioration. They are also able to design air, water, and soil protection technologies and waste recycling technologies, as well as assess the impact of waste on the environment. Education of specialists in this programme of study also address the area of environmental impact assessment of technological processes used in material production, and the health of ecological systems. Special attention is given to the research of processes applicable for the development of new progressive technologies, recycling and remediation technologies of various types of waste, with the objective to implement low or no-waste technologies and effectively manage and use progressive management methods. Graduates are equipped with necessary skills needed to pursue further Master studies.
Graduates can be employed as operation technologists in production facilities producing inorganic and organic materials and related products. They can also find employment as professional workers in construction offices. They are able to independently implement experiments, process and routinely assess them, which qualifies them also for positions of professional workers in material as well as chemical laboratories. Their knowledge of managerial and economic subjects enables them to hold leading positions in small operational teams where independent and operational decision making is required.
